CHICAGO -- A Philo teen is on her way to breaking into the modeling industry. 17-year old Ashley House was one of five finalists for the "Mario Make Me a Model" competition.
She came in second place in online voting, but her dad says he's pretty sure she'll get signed by an agency. House participated in Mario Tricoci's runway show in Chicago on Friday.
PHILO -- A teenager gets her turn in the spotlight in a nationwide modeling competition. Ashley House says she didn't even wear heels before February. But the 17-year old is good enough at walking in them now to attract one of the biggest names in fashion.
Many young people dream of strutting their stuff on a real catwalk. House is no exception.
"It's something I've wanted to do for a while, six years," said House. "But then I got tired of waiting so I just jumped into it."
That was two months ago. She put on her first pair of five-inch heels and learned to walk all over again. This time, she had a new purpose.
"I love runway," said House. "If I could do runway for the rest of my career, that would make me so happy."
House started practicing wherever she could, even in the hallways at her dad's office. And all that has paid off. She heard about a contest called, "Mario, Make Me a Model," as in Chicago stylist, Mario Tricoci.
"I clicked on the link for it and read up and thought it sounded like a good experience," said House. "I asked if we could do it and they said, 'yes.'"
Out of hundreds who showed up for casting calls, House stood out above the rest. She was picked to be one of five finalists. After that, she got to do a photo shoot in Chicago.
"You had to go the day before and get your nails done," said House. "And the day of, they spend four hours doing your hair and makeup. Then they put you in wardrobe and throw you in front of a camera and say, 'okay, pose for us.' It's scary and fun and just crazy all at the same time."
As the competition heats up, the teen hopes she'll be the next top model.
"I think I'm most excited for the finale show for 'Mario, Make Me a Model,'" said House. "It's going to be in Chicago and it's going to be the biggest thing that I've ever done so far."
The winner will be announced at a runway show next month. But you can help House get closer to winning by voting for her online.
