PARIS -- An Edgar County teen won't get a lesser sentence after being convicted of murdering his mom. 18-year old Terry Payton stabbed and killed his mom in 2011.

A jury found him guilty in February. Earlier this month, he was sentenced to eight years behind bars.

His defense attorney says his sentence should be reduced because he was abused by his mother. The argument was rejected. Payton is currently serving time at the Department of Corrections.
