GIFFORD -- Police cleared the town Sunday night after a tornado hit earlier in the day. Some people who were displaced are sleeping at the Country Health Care and Rehab Center. That's where the Red Cross is providing food and shelter.

They suspect many people made arrangements earlier in the day with family members because they haven't seen the turnout they expected. Downed power lines and debris make it easy to get into dangerous situations at night. So emergency crews said it was unsafe.

Police are patrolling the area making sure there's no violence or theft overnight. The mayor has arranged for heavy equipment to enter town overnight so they can have it first thing Monday morning.
