UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS - UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- Students got to travel the world without leaving campus on Tuesday. It's part of an event they've done for five years now during International Week. People got to explore different countries and cultures, try some of their food and understand where they came from. Some we talked with say they appreciate the opportunity to learn more about their fellow students.
"Understand a little bit more of why their opinions are different than yours," said Kaitlin, who is a graduate student at the University of Illinois. "Really helps people understand the culture and then you get an appreciation of where they come from and how you can work together to solve problems. Coming from an engineering background, that's always something I like to know."
Some groups also performed, including a belly dancing routine. Students say it's fun to get out of your cultural comfort zone. And they've learned you can learn to love different cultures, even if they're not part of your personal heritage.
