ILLINOIS -- This weekend, Illinois State Troopers are doing something for the first time. They're conducting Operation Sauter in honor of James Sauter.

His squad car was hit by a truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel a year ago. It happened in northern Illinois.

Through Sunday, troopers will be aggressively patrolling roadways looking for drowsy drivers. Nearly 6,000 fatal crashes are caused annually by sleepy drivers.
