In March, the department came under-fire because of questionable spending. Three members of the board were ousted.
Later, the Attorney General was called in to investigate, but didn't find anything wrong. Both Ford and Iroquois county boards plan to vote to dissolve the program within the next few months.
The Iroquois County Board chair says if either county votes it down, that will be it. Iroquois County plans to start its own public health department so residents won't see a gap in care.
There's also a separate audit taking place. The department has spent most, if not all, of its more than $2-million budget during the past few years, but the Iroquois County Board chair says it looks like they'll end up with an extra $600,000 - $800,000 for 2013, so they're trying to find out where all the money is, or isn't, going.
