SPRINGFIELD -- Police are investigating a double fatal automobile accident. Sunday evening, about 11 pm, police say they tried to stop a gold-colored Buick which was running red lights and speeding on 11th Street.

Officers called off the chase when the car continued to run all stop signs. A short time later, another officer saw the vehicle speed through 11th and Adams before crashing into another vehicle at 11th and Madison.

Two people were extricated from the Buick and taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The deceased are 25-year old Austin Stults, and 52-year old Roderick Ross.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. The incident is still under investigation.
