UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The Board of Trustees approved a three-year contract extension for the director of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, Mike Thomas. Thomas was hired in August, 2011, and, under the new agreement, will lead the Illini athletics program through 2019.

His original contract was five years with a two-year extension option pending a 24-month performance review. After that review, Chancellor Phyllis Wise accepted the option adding a third year to Thomas' contract. His new contract also includes an option for another two-year extension pending further performance reviews.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- UI trustees are considering giving the school's athletic director a nearly $80,000 raise. Base pay for Mike Thomas would go up to $554,000.

He was hired two years ago with a starting pay of $475,000. His contract would be extended two years. The proposal still has to be voted on by the full board.

Wisconsin's athletic director is the highest paid in the conference at $1.2 million. The lowest paid is Penn State's ad at $396,000.
