UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- UI senate leaders are standing firm on their stance to keep Chief Illiniwek in the past. The group of students and faculty unanimously passed the resolution Wednesday.

It's in response to a recent proposal from the Council of Chiefs. The group of former "chiefs" wanted to bring Chief Illiniwek back for two appearances a year. Earlier this month, Chancellor Phyllis Wise turned down the proposal.
