UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- 24 college tennis teams are competing here. It's the first time UI has hosted the Midwest Regional. The first day of qualifying went well.

It was a busy day on campus with the start of the tournament and a successful one for the Illini. Two players advanced to the qualifying draw Thursday. Although having home court advantage is a plus for the women, it isn't the only thing in their favor.

"It's great for the girls. They got to sleep in their own bed, they got to be able to go to school today, and they didn't miss class. We get to tape the matches, and it's the comforts of playing at home and hopefully getting some crowds out to come out and support our girls," says Women's Tennis Head Coach Michelle Dasso.

The players were also excited to show off a newly-remodeled facility. The tournament ends Saturday.
