It's part of a nationwide effort started by the American Veterinary Dental College. Vets check for things like periodontal disease, broken teeth, or anything that may be bothering the dog.
"It's something the owners can't see on the outside," said Dr. Sanda Manfra Maretta with UI. "A lot of people don't think to do that and without an oral exam, you don't know something is going on."
