CHAMPAIGN -- A UI student raised thousands of dollars in honor of her mother. Jennifer Peterson's mom died of cancer a few months ago.

Since then, she's been organizing her event "Sweep Away Cancer." 300 people showed up for it Saturday. The broom-ball tournament raised $10,000.

"I don't think I've felt her more then I have today. I can tell that she's so proud. I promised her I'd never lose faith in everything, that's why I did it. The money is one thing, I hope we raise a ton, but I really just wanted to honor her," Peterson said.

All the money raised will go to the American Cancer Society.
