UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- Leaders at UI are looking into expanding their background check policies. Currently, people who apply to work with kids, firearms or university money go through criminal background checks.

A group with members from all three campuses has already started brainstorming new ideas to include what to do when applicants get flagged or how to track them. They plan to have a draft ready by September and have updated policies in place by next winter.
