CHAMPAIGN -- Teachers aren't taking any chances and are going public with their fight for a new contract. Dozens picketed outside the Mellon Building Tuesday.

They've been working without a contract since the previous one expired in June. A federal mediator has been involved in the negotiations. Wages and benefits are some of the main sticking points.

CHAMPAIGN -- The Champaign Teachers Union picketed before a meeting with the district Tuesday. On June 30, the members' contract expired.

Both sides are working toward a solution, but chose to involve a mediator. Talks began about 4 pm. Both sides agree the focus is still on getting kids the best education possible.
