SPRINGFIELD -- Union workers are trying to stop the governor from closing two prisons. AFSCME Council 31 filed suit against the state Thursday. It represents prison workers.

The union is asking the judge for an injunction aimed at keeping Dwight and Tamms correctional centers open. It's also asking the court to keep juvenile and adult transition centers open, including one in Decatur.

Union leaders claim the closures will make prisons unsafe. Governor Quinn argues the state can't afford to keep them open.
