CHAMPAIGN -- Central High School parents are getting what they've been asking for. Thursday night, the school board will make a big decision about building a new school.
Talk of the building has been going on for years. Now, the school board will vote on hiring an outside firm to help them pick a final location for Central High School.
The goal is to choose one by December. The firm will help the school board look through layouts of possible sites and asking questions like if demolition is involved, how soon construction could start, how much it will cost and which layout is most favorable.
On the map of Champaign County, there are nine locations chosen. There's a lot of chatter parents favor the southern-most sites like Country Fair and the UI.
The superintendent recommends the board hire a firm with a $66,000 contract.
