CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- The United Way of Champaign County passed its fundraising goal this year. Leaders say it's all thanks to the community.

The organization's goal was $3.3 million this year. It raised more than $3.4 million which leaders say is a big deal considering the recovering economy.

United Way says local businesses help make their fundraising events successful. Groups like Carle, UI, Busey Bank and many more help keep the group's programs going and growing.

United Way funds 67 different programs and 37 non-profit groups in Champaign County. Officials say the money donated helps about 73,000 people in the area. They add, the community always manages to come through.

Last year, the goal was also $3.3 million. This is actually the sixth year the group has managed to meet its goals.
