UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The University is being awarded for clean shipping. It teamed up with the EPA's Smartway Transport Program. It's an effort to decrease emissions and pollution caused by transportation services.

The UI plans to do that by changing the way its dining services food is shipped. Leaders will look at hiring more sustainable trucking companies and making routes more green.

The UI is the first-ever academic institution to join the Smartway Program. Since it was developed in 2004, it has helped shippers save more than 65 million barrels of oil, the same as taking more than 5 million cars off the road for a year.
