CHAMPAIGN -- Friday's the day, Unofficial St. Patrick's Day at the University of Illinois. Police are keeping an eye out for students and everyone else joining the campus-wide party.

Some students started Thursday night and more hit the streets Friday to join in. Police have broken up a few parties with underage drinkers, but say they haven't had any major incidents.

They expected to see more people out this year than last because turnout depends a lot on the weather. Officers say they don't mind since they have to be out in it as well. The big emphasis is keeping everyone safe.

Officers are patrolling in uniform and also undercover in plain clothes. Students say they're doing what they can to be careful.

Police expect to hand out their fair share of tickets. People have to pay $185 if they have an open container or urinate publicly. There's a $330 fine for underage people caught drinking.

Officers' advice to people partying this weekend; it's a marathon, not a sprint. They want everyone to have a good time, but do it safely.
