Village seeks new chief

THOMASBORO, Ill. (WCIA)  -- Village leaders are calling on their neighbors to help hire a new police chief.

Current chief Keith Willis announced his retirement from the Thomasboro Police Department last month, around the same time the village of Rantoul brought on its new chief.

Thomasboro leaders say they will seek some advice from Rantoul and Urbana to make sure the position is left in good hands.

"We're looking forward to finding a really good candidate. We know it's going to be a struggle finding the right fit. It takes a special kind to serve, and to find someone who actually cares about the town and wants to put their full heart into the work," said Mayor Tyler Evans.

The meeting is just the start of discussions about the position. Evans said there are a lot of logistics to figure out, such as whether the position will be part-time like Willis' was or if the village can afford a full-time chief.
