Water rates will increase over three years

DECATUR -- The cost of your water is going up. The Decatur City Council voted unanimously in support of a rate hike. It will affect both homeowners and businesses.

Customers will pay 35% more the first year, 30% the second and 25% the next. The average customer pays about $26 per month right now. By the third year, they'd pay $56 per month.

The money will be used for upgrades to the water department.
