ILLINOIS -- Last week's winter weather delayed the state's higher speed limit. A new law took effect January 1. It increased the speed limit from 65 mph to 70 mph.

The state was hoping to have 900 new speed limit signs installed by the end of this week. Instead, it had to assign about 3,700 employees to help clear roads.

Police want to remind people not to go the new speed limit until the signs are up.
