RANTOUL -- Everyday life for one high school senior consists of perfecting her sport. That includes a trip overseas pretty soon.

Mercedes Porter is going to Australia in July for a chance to compete in the Down Under Sports Competition. She was recruited and chosen from track & field athletes around the world, which isn't a surprise to those who know her.

Porter was the only girl from Rantoul High School to compete at state her freshman and junior years. It was for her favorite track-and-field event; the triple jump. Her best jump so far was 36'11". That's just three inches shy from beating the school record which is something she hopes to do this year.

Mercedes just made the big decision to go to Louis University last week. She hopes to be an athletic trainer one day.

As far as her big trip to Australia, she needs help to go. She's raising money and selling t-shirts to pay for travel costs.

To help, email her or click here. Make sure to put Mercedes Porter in the name box.
