She spent hundreds of hours working on Hessel Park's tree walk map. Burridge drew pictures of leaves, fruit and bark from dozens of trees around the park. The map can help people get familiar with the greenery. She combined her two passions into one project.
"I'm an artist. I've drawn all my life," said Burridge. "I'm a certified arborist and have been for some years. So this is like the perfect project. I get to use all my skills and help my community."
Each of the drawings took between 15 and 25 hours to perfect. Burridge used pen and ink to create each tiny detail. She was surprised and excited to hear about her award. You can pick up a copy of the tree guide at the University of Illinois Extension Office.
