Union Pacific says if you're on a set of tracks in your car when you shouldn't be, it's comparable to your car driving over a pop can. It doesn't stand a chance of not being demolished.
That's why railroad officials want local police to increase security around crossings. It means they'll be watching to make sure you only cross at designated places and don't dart out in front of gates to try to beat a train.
Union Pacific says train accidents don't happen often, but are 100% avoidable. Illinois has the third highest number of train crashes in the country, but we're second in trespassing accidents meaning someone is on the tracks when or where they shouldn't be.
