WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Seven Illinois teens are headed to Europe this week to play in some of the most prestigious music halls in the world. It's the journey of a lifetime for the members of the National Youth Orchestra of America.

They'll travel to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and London. The group, organized by Carnegie Hall, has been training with some of the best musicians in the country, ahead of its international tour.

"I was really, really excited," said Erika Gray of Wilmette. "I started texting everyone I knew. I called my mom because I was at school at the time, so during the passing period I called her and I was like, 'Mom, Mom, Mom! Guess what? I'm going to Russia and London!'"

While the tour is a major accomplishment for musicians like Gray, she says she's just grateful for the experience. The tour offers free tuition to each teen.
