Bomber Brothers: Stanley's ready for homecoming

Makhi and Makail Stanley face former team for LOVC NW title Friday night

ARGENTA (WCIA) -- Football teammates are something like brothers. That is, of course, if you aren't already.

"Sometimes he does good and I'm proud of him, but I want to do better," Argenta-Oreana junior Makhi Stanley said.

The Stanley brothers, also known as Makhi and Makail, both play running back for Argenta-Oreana. Just a year apart, this is only the second time the two have played for the same team.

"He's always honestly kind of been a role model to me," Makail Stanley said. "So when I was younger looking at him, seeing what he was doing at his age, I was really proud of him and I wanted to be just like him."

Nowadays, the focus is on who's better, as they always compete against one another.

"He's a dancer, he likes to dance," Makail said about his brother on the field. "He's like a highlight reel looker. I'm just trying to get past people and try not to get hit too hard."

"I think we're more competitive on defense, seeing who can get the most tackles or hit the hardest, or just make more plays," Makhi said.

And making plays is big part of the Stanley brother's game plan, especially this week against Decatur LSA. Besides a chance at an outright Little Okaw Valley Northwest conference championship, beating the Lions means taking down Makhi's former team. The Stanley brothers moved to Argenta-Oreana two years ago.

"It's always competitive between me and LSA, all my friends out there," Makhi said. "It's bragging rights there too."

"(Craig) Bundy, the head coach at LSA, he said he was really looking forward to me coming and playing defense for them and doing all that stuff, and of course that didn't happen," Makail said. "I'm definitely looking for us to butt heads and make some good memories.”

“They’re a big part of what we do here and we’re really glad they came to Argenta-Oreana," Bombers head coach Steve Kirk said.

Where two Bomber Brothers hope to bring home a conference title.
