Emotional season for Rochester ends with 7th state title in 8 seasons

DEKALB (WCIA) -- Rochester won yet another state championship on Friday, that makes 7 in the last 8 seasons for the Rockets. And this one might be the most special for Derek Leonard.

Rochester needed a last second field goal from sophomore Clay Alewelt to beat Morris 24-21.

"It was an emotional year for me and I told those seniors I needed them so much and they are such a great group. They're good kids, they do things the right way," Leonard said after the win. "I never had to deal with any issues and I needed that more this year than anything."

"It was definitely this one because we were such a family this year and we worked so hard together. I love everyone of those guys and I know everyone of those guys would go balls to the wall for me and I would have broke a leg before we lost that game," quarterback Nic Baker added.
