MAHOMET, Ill. - Around Mahomet they call it the "Kenney Connection."  You've probably heard it over the loud speaker if you've been to a Bulldogs' game recently.

"When he first announced he said, "Kenny to Kenny" and then he said, "The Kenny Connection" and from then on it just became a moniker," said head coach Keith Pogue.

Senior quarterback Joe Kenney and his brother Tom, a junior wide receiver, have a connection on the field that dates back to their childhood.  They grew up battling against each other in the back yard; now they're leading Mahomet-Seymour together as one of the area's most dynamic duos.

"It's awesome," Tom said.  "I like playing with my brother a lot.  We know each other, we know our strengths and weaknesses."

The Kenneys spent the summer working out together with a quarterback coach.  Tom would often run the routes for Joe.  But when they weren't on the field, you could probably find them in the batting cage.  Baseball is the brothers' main sport, and it's the one they'll play in college.  Joe recently committed to St. Joseph's College, a D-II school in Indiana.

"I think it's a really good school, great baseball program and coaching staff and a really good fit for me," he said.

Tom is one of the biggest reasons for Joe's success - and vice versa - especially on the diamond.  Last season Tom outperformed his big brother in the batter's box, hitting .512 as a sophomore.  Joe had a .436 average.  He knows he won't hear the end of that for awhile.

"If he's going to one-up me, it's best that it be him and not anyone else," Joe said.

This fall they'll work as one.  Head coach Keith Pogue has several plays designed specifically for them.  As long as the Bulldogs are winning, the brothers say they don't mind who has more touchdowns at the end of the year.
