PEORIA (WCIA) -- The St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans will play for two state titles in one day. The softball team beat Pinckneyville 13-0 in five innings to advance to Saturday's championship game against Beecher. The baseball team survived a late scare to take down Chicago Christian 5-2, they will take on Teutopolis in Saturday's finale.
"It feels great," SJO senior Mason Coon said. "A little nail biter there at the end, we got a little nervous but we had some guys come up big, we kept hitting doubles. We had four doubles in a row, tacked on some runs and then went out and played defense."
"I think we're ready to go out there and win it all this year," fellow SJO senior Colton Hale said. "Same mindset as last year just out there and get it done."
The softball team used a nine run third inning to pull away early and they never looked back.
"We were really ready today," SJO head coach Randy Wolken said. "We were prepared, we were ready to hit. We did a lot of hitting this morning and it just seemed like the girls were ready to go today."
"Most people don't even get the chance to play in one state championship game and I'm extremely lucky that I get a chance to play in two," SJO senior Andrea Coursey said.
