WCIA -- Dozens of area athletes signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their playing career in college on the opening day of the signing period Wednesday.
In Tolono, Unity's Steven Migut became the first football player to go Division I when he inked with Army. The multi-year standout led the Rockets to the state championship game as a sophomore.
"The whole recruiting process has been pretty stressful and this is a dream that I've had for a long time," Migut said. "It's nice to just get it all over with and know that it's official. I'm just excited for the new opportunity. West Point is a completely different place from here. It's far away. I'm going to be exposed to some new things. So, I'm as excited for the opportunity to go somewhere and do some new things with my life."
Meanwhile in Mahomet, Meredith Johnson-Monfort officially signed to play soccer for Illinois. At Centennial, six athletes signed to their various college, Casey Lavin (Missouri-St. Louis Soccer), Francisco Andrade (Parkland Soccer), Jaden Roberts-Thomas (SIUC Football), Diarmud Reilly (Parkland Soccer), Hailey Johnson (Milikin Volleyball) and Joshua Hassell (McKendree Football.)
