Urbana's Scott commits to Illinois

Former Duke commit re-opens recruitment, decides to stay home

URBANA (WCIA) -- Urbana senior Arieal Scott verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Illinois late Wednesday night, ending her second recruitment. The sharp shooting Top 100 guard nationally decommitted from Duke in July after originally committing to play for the Blue Devils last November.

"I just feel that Illinois is going in the right direction right now and they're getting the right people there and I just want to be a part of something special," Scott said. "I feel like I can come in and we can all bind together and actually get something going for the university because nothing has ever been there for the women's basketball program."

Illinois was runner-up to Duke when Scott originally committed. Since then, the Illini fired Matt Bollant and hired Nancy Fahey as head coach. The Illini are coming off a 9-22 season.
