CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois baseball team's newest assistant coach, Spencer Allen, was in town and on the job Monday.  Allen has 12 years of coaching experience, including stints with Purdue, Washington State and most recently Creighton.  He is known as a top-notch recruiter, and he is ready to hit the ground running.

"They've done a lot of good things here, so I'm just looking to add on to that," Allen said.  "Then obviously the recruiting, which is a huge, huge piece."

Allen takes over for Eric Snider, who left to become the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisville.  Head coach Dan Hartleb says Allen has been on his list of candidates long before Snider left town.

"Spencer's been a person that's been on my list for a number of years," said Hartleb.  "He's a quality person, a quality recruiter, and a great coach."
