Meanwhile the Illini put on shoulder pads for the first time Wednesday. No hitting yet, but they are getting closer as they inch toward a return to Camp Rantoul next week.
"It was good today," Beckman said. "Had a little excitement of having the pads on for the first time since spring ball. We had a little tempers flare every now and then, but that's part of football."
Illinois will hold three more practices in Champaign before starting at Camp Rantoul Monday.
