CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois wide receiver Geronimo Allison missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, but head coach Tim Beckman isn't worried.  He says the junior college transfer should be back at practice Thursday.  Offensive coordinator Bill Cubit says Allison has been one of the top receivers so far in camp.

Meanwhile the Illini put on shoulder pads for the first time Wednesday.  No hitting yet, but they are getting closer as they inch toward a return to Camp Rantoul next week.

"It was good today," Beckman said.  "Had a little excitement of having the pads on for the first time since spring ball.  We had a little tempers flare every now and then, but that's part of football."

Illinois will hold three more practices in Champaign before starting at Camp Rantoul Monday.
