CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Tim Beckman held three players out of spring football practice Friday because of academic issues.  Beckman wouldn't say which players were out, but he said they will not be allowed to play in Saturday's first spring scrimmage.

If you're looking for a decision on a starting quarterback soon, you're probably going to have to wait for at least a few more weeks.  While offensive coordinator Bill Cubit said earlier this week he could name a starter by the end of spring, he isn't going to force the issue.  Right now, Wes Lunt, Aaron Bailey and Reilly O'Toole are all getting equal reps with the first-team offense, and Cubit says that will probably continue for the next few weeks.

"[We'll] evaluate it after spring, figure out where you're at there," Cubit said this week.  "If one's playing a little bit more, you give him more reps; and if they're still about equal - the biggest thing is you have to be fair.  You have to go out there and give every kid an opportunity to go out there and compete.  That's the biggest thing for the first three weeks."
