Donnelly's status unknown

Illinois volleyball's lone senior went down in Friday's match

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Illinois volleyball's lone senior will likely miss time with an unspecified injury. Brandi Donnelly got hurt in Friday night's match against Purdue. The Williamsville native had an ice bag around her knee after coming off the court but Illini head coach Chris Tamas wouldn't confirm it's a knee injury when asked Wednesday afternoon. The first year coach simply said the situation, 'Isn't as bad as we originally thought.'

"Her return is just going to be based on her rehab so we'll continue like we always do with practice everyday and we'll see when she comes back, we'll be happy to have her back obviously," Tamas said.

Donnelly had played in every match for the Illini before getting hurt. There are five other defensive specialists on the roster, all underclassmen.

"Brandi's a big piece of our team on the court but I think we're also focused on doing what we need to do to win and we're not going to let ourselves freak out about not having Brandi on the court," Illinois junior middle blocker Ali Bastianelli said.

Illinois hosts Ohio State Friday night at 8 p.m. then welcome Maryland to town Saturday night at 7  p.m.
