CHICAGO (WCIA) -- Illinois basketball signs its highest rated recruit since Dee Brown in the Class of 2002. Morgan Park 5-star point guard Ayo Dosunmu made his commitment official, signing to play for the Illini.
"I'm just very happy," Dosunmu said. "Illinois is the school I want to go to. I'm 100-percent committed but I don't feel like I rushed anything. I went through the process and I made the best decision for me and my family."
Dosunmu was the day's lone signee for head coach Brad Underwood.
"I'm ecstatic about the one we got today because we got our guy and we got the guy that impacts our program and I don't get into the star system like most of you but this one does happen to be a five-star and one of the best players in America and in my opinion, the best point guard in America," Underwood said.
With two open scholarships in the 2018 class, Dosunmu says he's already looking ahead to the spring signing period.
"I'm going to recruit and do my best to get other good players with me," he said. "At the end of the day, I'm happy with what we have now."
During his signing, Dosunmu mentioned his ultimate goal of helping to bring Illinois Basketball back to prominence, but in the meantime he's got big plans for his senior year.
"I want to win City and State. I just want to play as hard as I can, dominate the game, and then whatever will come of it, I'll take all of it."
