CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Athletic director Josh Whitman hired Nancy Fahey back in March.
After more than 30 years and five national titles at Washington University in St. Louis, Fahey is now caoching at the Division I level for the first time in her career. Whether Fahey can improve upon last year's 3-13 finish in the Big Ten is still uncertain, but players say she's bringing a new energy to the team that it hasn't had in awhile.
"Coach Fahey is using the term 'gritty' and 'being gritty,'" senior guard Kennedy Cattenhead said. "I feel like she's really embracing that. I think that's good for us as a team."
"We do more things efficiently," junior forward Alex Wittinger said. "Like, we get in, we get out and we put in our work. Even if we're taking breaks within a practice, there's something incorporated into that. So, our minds are always tested and we've always got to stay focuses, which is what we need."
