In a teleconference with reporters Wednesday, Groce said he hasn't been providing a good example to his players on how to handle adversity, admitting he has gotten too emotional. Groce echoed that same message when he spoke with his players.
"He was just telling us he is the type of person who doesn't want to be a hypocrite if he doesn't want us acting like that," said senior Jon Ekey. "He told us straight up that maybe it was a little bit too much. It was one of those things in the heat of the moment, guys do things, and he is a competitive guy."
Groce and the Illini (13-6, 2-4) will try to snap a four-game losing streak Thursday night at Ohio State (6:00 pm CT, ESPN).
