COAL VALLEY, Ill. - John Groce has been hitting the recruiting trail hard this summer looking for the next big point guard.  Groce calls that position "the quarterback" of his team, and it is a big time position of need moving forward.  You can imagine that was a popular topic of conversation as the Illini Caravan stopped in the quad cities Thursday night.

After next season Illinois will only have one scholarship point guard.  That is why Groce has been spending a lot of time recruiting guys like Jalen Brunson, Jawun Evans, Justin Robinson and others.  It is clearly a position Groce is focusin on when he's hitting the recruiting trail this summer.

"We've got two seniors with Tracy [Abrams] and Ahmad [Starks] here in our third year that will graduate," Groce said.  "So now you're back to one, so obviously that's a concern, and it's something that we're addressing in recruiting efforts in 2015."

As it stands, Jaylon Tate will be the only point guard on the roster for the 2015-2016 season.
