How Sweet It Is: Illini volleyball back in the Sweet 16

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- For the 8th time in the last ten seasons, Illinois volleyball has a spot in the Sweet 16.

The Illini upset the #8 seed Washington on Saturday to earn their berth. The team was welcomed back by fans at Willard Airport on Sunday evening.

"Last night was a crazy one and really fun environment to play in and able to do it in front of their home crowd which was 3500 strong for them," head coach Chris Tamas said. "Again, we see a lot of these battles in the BigTen night in and night out and I think that really helped us along the way. I think we're playing some of our best volleyball we've played all year, which is important this time of year."

"I just think we've really embraced the pressure and we know that, we talked about the whole game, the pressure is on their side," senior Brandi Donnelly added. "They were the 8th seed, there was nothing on us besides go out and play our best volleyball and do the best we can. And that's what we did."

Illinois will travel to Penn State for the regional. They play Michigan State on Friday at 3:00.
