UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The Fighting Illini has a new look and so far it's getting rave reviews.

"They hit it right on the mark. I loved everything," says student Taquera Taliferro.

All the teams got new uniforms as part of an almost two year re-branding of the University. Wednesday, the uniforms were revealed at Krannert Center. Even though pictures were leaked hours before, many fans didn't know what to expect. As fans, students and longtime alum filed into Krannert they had an idea of what they wanted.

"Something that pops, something that when we go out there they say, 'There's U of I,'" says student athlete Garrett Lee.

"Some really neat sparkly type of uniforms. I am thinking bright colors. I think we can keep with the orange and blue but make them brighter," says Barb Alsup.

Wearing their school gear, hundreds of even the tiniest of fans anxiously awaited the big reveal. Athletes from different teams modeled their new outfits which took 18 months to make and a lot of thought.

"The new logo, the shield was great. It was just really sharp, the V and all the symbolism that went into everything was really awesome. Better or worse? A lot better. The unity is going to help it a lot," says Jeff Ruser, a longtime fan.

The new victory shield was the biggest hit. Two F's that stand for fighting, face each other to form the Block I. Nike reps say they got inspiration from three areas, gray from the Galloping Ghost pillars from Memorial Stadium and of course the fans.

"I thought they were very enthusiastic. The colors are great, I like the design, the lettering. It's really neat," says Jerry Frye.

"Probably more orange on the blue uniforms and the white uniforms because I really like the orange," says Sharon Capie, another longtime fan.

"Once they go out in the store I am definitely going to buy it," say Taliferro.

The school hopes these uniforms build a new future and, of course, help their athletes win.

"I think they'll look good, so they'll play good," says Jerry Frye.

All of the gear is already on sale in stores.
