Illini men's golf opens season this weekend

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Illinois returns all but one player from their 3rd Final Four team in a row. Coming off their 10th appearance at the national championships in as many year and 8th Big Ten title in nine years, expectations are once again high.

Seniors Nick Hardy and Dylan Meyer are the anchors of this Illini team, along with returners Michael Feagles and Giovanni Tadiotto.

"I equate it to shooting baskets, to shooting jump shots. You can't really teach somebody to shoot jump shots very well during the middle of the season. You gotta go just do it. Dance with the lady that brung ya, and you gotta go compete," head coach Mike Small said. "It's getting to the point of the season when we start getting outside more consistently you gotta go, go play."

"The only thing that's going through my head is win. I just want to win, win, win. Just keep racking up as many wins as we can get," senior Dylan Meyer added. "Dominate Big Tens, dominate regionals, and then go in a try to win the national championship. That's what you come and play college sports for, is you want to win that national championship and I think we have a really good shot this year of doing that."

Illinois opens Big Ten match play on Friday in Florida.
