Illini men's tennis underclassmen on an impressive run

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Illinois men's tennis is ready for another deep postseason run, and if they want to do it, they'll need the underclassmen to continue to perform.

Sophomore Zeke Clark is on a nine match win streak in singles, while Aleks Kovacevic rides a eight match win streak. Neither of them has lost a Big Ten singles match.

Freshman Alex Brown has won seven singles matches in a row, all in a top 3 court.

"It's been a little bit of a momentum push with this team as the season has gone along that some of the younger guys are really stepping up and playing great tennis, creating winning streaks for themselves, taking a lot of ownership in the direction of the team and as a coach you got to love that when your younger guys are stepping up," head coach Brad Dancer said.

"It's awesome. They keep winning. I want them to keep winning so it will be less pressure on me and Aron," senior Aleks Vukic added. "They've been doing an unreal job and it makes like so much easier when everyone else is winning so I'm hoping everyone can keep winning."

The Illini start the Big Ten tournament on Friday against either Penn State or Purdue.
