Illini set to face 'patient' Portland Pilots

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Illinois soccer team heads to Lincoln, Neb. this weekend for the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  Illinois will take on No. 7 Portland Friday at 11:00 a.m.

If Illinois wins they would likely face Big Ten rival Nebraska in the next round, but first they have to get past a Top 10 Portland Pilots team that head coach Janet Rayfield says will be the most patient team they have faced all year.

"It's a team that really is a possession-oriented team," Rayfield said.  "They don't take a lot of shots, but they are really good at creating great opportunities.  I think they are one of those teams that wear you down.  Like on the football field, if the offense has the ball for a long time, they wear down the defense.  They do that."
