Illini win Fahey's first game

Illinois beats Fort Wayne 64-50 in season opener, Nancy Fahey's debut

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- The Illinois women's basketball team won head coach Nancy Fahey's first game as Illini coach Friday afternoon, beating Fort Wayne 64-50.

"You know I'd like to say it's another game but it wasn't another game," Fahey said. "It was a special game and I feel very fortunate and blessed that I got the chance to be here today and the opportunity to work with these kids."

"I mean it feels good like she said to just have a win," Illinois sophomore guard Brandi Beasley said. "We love her as a coach, she's a great person and when we go out there we play hard because we know that she cares for us."

Illinois returns to the court Sunday at Florida Gulf Coast.
