CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Former Illini Brandon Paul is now a part of the best organization in basketball, the San Antonio Spurs. We caught up with him this weekend while he was back on campus taking in the volleyball and football games.
Paul averaged more than 15 points per game in seven summer league games with the Mavericks and Cavaliers. He signed a guaranteed contract with the Spurs in July, his first guaranteed deal of his career.
"It's not much different. I go into the Summer League with the same mindset, just do what I do and try to show teams that I belong and I guess this summer it stuck. Now I'm with the best organization and I feel really good about that," Paul said. "I think they found a guy that they know they can trust and can fit into their system and like I said before, it's very humbling just to see that the top organization wants a player like me and it gives me a lot of confidence moving forward."
NBA training camps open in late September. The season starts October 17th.
