Sunday Quarterback (10/29)

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Illinois fell to #5 Wisconsin 24-10 on Saturday, Craig Choate recaps it with Robert Rosenthal of IlliniBoard.com.

Craig:
"A lot closer than people thought it was going to be yesterday (Saturday)."

ROBERT ROSENTHAL:
"Yeah. 27 point underdogs and lose by 14. It's kind of funny that you're looking for those kind of positives in a 14 point loss but yeah I there were some positives. Everyone expected Wisconsin to rush for 400+ yards and dominate the game and the defense was able to force them to punt and at least give the offense some opportunities."

Craig:
"This is two weeks in a row that they've pretty much been in the entire game. How much stock can be put into that?"

ROBERT:
"I think it can. That's similar to what fans maybe saw in 2006 with Ron Zook's second team that the first go around they got completely blown out, the second go around they're in the games, they're staying closer. There are sign that if you can hang with, and stay in the vacinity of #5, last year they lost to Wisconsin 48-3, so you get these signs that maybe there is some progress and you're staying closer to these good teams."

Craig:
"This is two weeks now that we've seen true freshman Cam Thomas at quarterback. He's showing some freshman mistakes, there is some potential there though."

ROBERT:
"It's that crazy thing that the first pass he hit to Malik Turner, a 25 yards out, and NFL-like throw, hit the guy right on the sideline, perfect throw. Fans I'm sure were ecstatic of 'This kid can really sling it' and then he throws two interceptions, is 2-11 and he looks like a freshman. So yeah, there's signs there, especially with the running ablility, there's signs there's some progress that he's the kind of quarterback they want for this but you can't have the completed two passes to your guys and two passes to the other guys. You gotta get more than that."

Illinois travels to Purdue on Saturday.
