CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Parkland softball team will head to the Region 24 Tournament this weekend with a spot at Nationals on the line.

"The season is a marathon," said head coach Chuck Clutts.  "It's almost 60 games, but right now we're in a sprint.  It's do or die, and the kids are ready for it."

Parkland is peaking at the right time.  They have won their last nine games to clinch a share of the conference championship, and they feel confident they can make some noise at the regional in Mattoon.

"I think we really peaked toward the end of the season, which is good for region," said sophomore Jordan Wheeler.  "I think that we're going to come into regions strong, and we're playing our best ball right now."

Parkland is the No. 4 seed in the Region 24 Tournament.  They'll play their first round game against No. 5 John Wood Thursday at 3:30 pm at the Roundhouse Softball Complex in Mattoon.
