Three Illini drafted in day 3 of NFL draft

Three Illini defensive stars are NFL bound after getting drafted.

Michael Buchanan, Akeem Spence and Terry Hawthorne were drafted Saturday. Spence was taken in the fourth round by Tampa Bay, while Hawthorne was chosen in the fifth round by Pittsburgh. Buchanan had to sweat the draft out, but New England took the defensive end in the seventh round.

The three defensive players join third round pick Hugh Thornton as NFL draft picks. Illinois has four players chosen in the draft, the most of any Big Ten school this year.

After the draft, lineman Graham Pocic tweeted he signed with the Houston Texans.
